The skateboard was originally a surf-inspired invention traced to 1950s California, where "sidewalk surfing" was created by surfers looking to ride when waves were flat. Bowl and pool skating followed; all made possible by manufacturing and creativity, and commercialized from there.
Wakeboarding — behind cable systems, boats and winches, followed.
Today, a plethora of disciplines — kitesurfing, foiling & wingfoiling, and parafoiling, exist because of humanity's love for ocean board riding.
